Windows, Locks & Vacuum System
Older Mercedes lock their doors with vacuum, not motors. When one door stops locking, the leak is usually somewhere else entirely.
Signs you need this
- Window drops into the door or moves crookedly
- Central locking works on some doors but not others
- Locks cycle repeatedly or unlock on their own
- One-touch up or comfort closing stopped working
How we approach it
We repair window regulators — the plastic clips and cables that snap and drop a window into the door — and rebuild or replace the door lock actuators that run the central locking. On vacuum-operated cars we pressure test the circuit to find the leaking element, which is frequently a fuel filler flap actuator or a hardened line rather than the door everyone blames. We also fix one-touch and comfort-close functions that stop working after a battery change, which is a normalisation procedure rather than a repair.
What the job includes
- 01Window regulator and motor replacement
- 02Door lock actuator repair or replacement
- 03Vacuum circuit pressure testing and leak location
- 04Vacuum pump and line replacement
- 05Door panel removal with clip and moisture barrier renewal
- 06Window normalisation and comfort function reprogramming
Common questions
Why did my window stop working right after the battery was replaced?
The window motor lost its stored end positions. It needs a normalisation procedure — hold the switch up for a few seconds past the stop, and down likewise. If that does not restore it, bring it by.
One door will not lock. Is that one part?
On a vacuum car, not necessarily — a leak anywhere in the circuit weakens the whole system, and the weakest actuator is the first to stop. We pressure test rather than guess.
Let us take a look at it.
Call and describe what the car is doing. We will give you an honest assessment before any work begins.
