Turbocharger & Supercharger
Low boost is usually a leak or an actuator, not a dead turbo. We pressure test before anyone spends four figures on a cartridge.
Signs you need this
- Noticeable loss of power or limp mode under load
- Whistling, siren or grinding noise that rises with boost
- Blue or black smoke from the exhaust
- Boost pressure regulation or underboost fault codes
How we approach it
On AMG biturbo V8s, OM642 and OM651 diesels and the four-cylinder CGI engines, a boost complaint is most often a split charge pipe, a cracked intercooler, a sticking variable geometry actuator or a leaking diverter valve. We smoke test the charge system under pressure to find it. When a turbo genuinely is finished — shaft play, oil in the intake, smoke on start — we replace it, address the oil feed and return lines that killed it, and change the oil so the new unit does not follow the old one.
What the job includes
- 01Pressurised smoke test of the entire charge air system
- 02Actuator and vacuum control testing with Xentry
- 03Charge pipe, intercooler and diverter valve replacement
- 04Turbocharger replacement with new oil feed and return lines
- 05Supercharger coupling, bearing and clutch service on Kompressor models
- 06Oil service and post-repair boost verification on road test
Common questions
The dealer quoted two turbos. Do I really need both?
On a biturbo V8, not necessarily — banks fail independently. We test each side and quote what has actually failed.
What kills a Mercedes turbo?
Oil, almost always. Extended intervals coke the oil feed line, the bearing starves, and the shaft goes. Replacing the lines with the turbo is not upselling, it is the reason the new one lasts.
