Tires, Wheels & TPMS
Big wheels, low profiles and staggered fitments make Mercedes fussy about balance. A conventional spin balance often is not enough.
Signs you need this
- Vibration at highway speed that comes and goes
- TPMS warning that will not clear after inflation
- Uneven wear, feathering or a tire losing pressure slowly
- Wheel damage or a bend after hitting a pothole
How we approach it
We fit and balance tires with careful attention to the staggered setups AMG and sport packages use, check wheels for the bends that Orange County potholes hand out, and program TPMS sensors so the car actually reports pressures rather than flashing a permanent warning. On 4MATIC cars we will always advise on matched rolling diameters, because mismatched tires damage transfer cases. We will also tell you when a tire is simply too old to be safe regardless of tread depth.
What the job includes
- 01Tire mounting and balancing with correct staggered placement
- 02Wheel runout measurement and bent rim identification
- 03TPMS sensor replacement, programming and relearn
- 04Tire age and condition assessment, not just tread depth
- 05Torque to specification with a calibrated wrench
- 06Alignment check recommendation where wear indicates it
Common questions
Do I have to run the exact factory tire size?
On a 4MATIC car, staying within factory rolling diameter matters a great deal. On rear-wheel-drive cars there is a little more latitude, and we are happy to advise on sensible alternatives.
Can you fix a bent wheel or does it need replacing?
Many bends are repairable and we work with a specialist who straightens them properly. Cracked wheels we will not return to the road.
Let us take a look at it.
Call and describe what the car is doing. We will give you an honest assessment before any work begins.
