SBC Brake System
SBC counts its own actuations. When the counter runs out, the car warns you, and eventually it stops letting you drive.
Signs you need this
- Red "Visit workshop" or SBC brake warning message
- Brake pedal feel changed or pump running frequently
- Loud pump cycling when you open the door
- Car in limp mode or refusing to release the brakes
How we approach it
Sensotronic is an electro-hydraulic brake system fitted to W211, R230 and C219 models. The hydraulic unit has a finite service life recorded in the module, and when the count is reached you get a red brake warning and a car that may refuse to move. We read the actual counter value, tell you where you stand, and handle unit replacement with the required SCN coding and bleed procedure — which cannot be done without factory tooling. Where the unit is still healthy, we service the brakes correctly using the Xentry service position rather than fighting the pump.

Common questions
Can any shop do brake pads on an SBC car?
They should not. The system has to be put into service position with a scan tool before the calipers are touched, and doing it without one risks damaging the unit or trapping air that cannot be bled conventionally.
Is there a recall on SBC?
There were extended warranty campaigns on some model years, which have long since expired for most cars. We will check what applies to your VIN before quoting.
