Maintenance & Fluids

Mercedes Service B

Service B is the larger of the two alternating Mercedes-Benz maintenance services, due at 20,000 miles or two years. It adds a cabin combination filter and a complete brake fluid exchange to everything Service A covers.

Typical range: $395 – $625

Signs you need this

  • "Service B due" message or wrench symbol on the instrument cluster
  • Two years since your last Service B, whatever the mileage
  • Approaching 20,000, 40,000, 60,000 or 80,000 miles
  • Musty air from the vents or a soft brake pedal

How we approach it

Brake fluid is the reason Service B matters more than owners expect. It absorbs moisture out of the air, and moisture lowers its boiling point and corrodes the inside of an ABS unit — which is a far more expensive repair than the fluid it destroyed. Service B renews it on the factory two-year interval, replaces the activated charcoal cabin filter that has been collecting Orange County air for two years, and repeats the oil, fluid, tire and brake work from Service A. We use MB-approved fluids throughout, reset the ASSYST Plus counter, and give you the brake measurements in writing so you know what is coming next time.

Common questions

What is included in Mercedes Service B?

Synthetic oil and a genuine filter, every fluid level corrected, tire pressures set, a full brake inspection, a new cabin combination filter, and a complete brake fluid exchange. It is the 20,000-mile or two-year service.

How much does Service B cost?

Typically $395 to $625 here depending on model and oil capacity. Orange County dealers commonly quote $600 to $900 for the same schedule. Call us with your year and model for an exact figure.

Can I skip Service B and just get an oil change?

You can, but you would be skipping the brake fluid — and contaminated fluid is what corrodes ABS hydraulic units from the inside. That repair runs well into four figures on most models. It is the one item we would never let a customer defer twice.

Do you use genuine Mercedes-Benz parts for Service B?

Yes. Genuine filters, MB-approved oil to the correct sheet number for your engine, and brake fluid meeting the DOT 4 Plus or low-viscosity specification your car requires.
