Shocks, Struts & Springs
Dampers wear so gradually that most owners never notice. Then they drive the car with new ones fitted and wonder what happened to the last five years.
Signs you need this
- Floating or wallowing over dips and crests
- Clunk over bumps from the top of the strut
- Uneven or cupped tire wear
- Nose dive under braking or excessive body roll
How we approach it
We replace shocks and struts in axle pairs with new mounts, bearings and bump stops, because a new damper working through a collapsed mount is a waste of a good part. Springs are inspected for the corrosion breaks that coastal cars suffer. On sport and AMG packages we fit the correct damper for the chassis code rather than a generic listing, which is a genuine difference in how the car settles afterwards. A four-wheel alignment finishes the job.
What the job includes
- 01Suspension inspection with a bounce and load test
- 02Shock and strut replacement in axle pairs
- 03Strut mount, bearing and bump stop renewal
- 04Coil spring inspection and replacement where corroded or broken
- 05Sway bar link and bushing inspection
- 06Four-wheel alignment after fitting
Common questions
Do I need an alignment after new struts?
Yes. Strut replacement changes camber on most Mercedes front suspensions, and skipping the alignment will chew through a new set of tires.
How long do Mercedes shocks last?
Typically 60,000 to 90,000 miles. Sport-package dampers and cars on large wheels tend to be at the lower end of that.
Let us take a look at it.
Call and describe what the car is doing. We will give you an honest assessment before any work begins.
