Sunroof & Panoramic Roof Repair
Almost every mystery water leak in a Mercedes traces back to a sunroof drain. And almost every sunroof drain is clear until it is not.
Signs you need this
- Roof stuck open, stuck closed, or moving unevenly
- Grinding or clicking from the roof when operated
- Damp headliner, A-pillar or footwell after rain
- Roof opens but will not tilt, or the shade will not move
How we approach it
Panoramic roofs on W164, W166, W204 and W212 chassis suffer broken plastic guide shoes that jam the panel half open — often in the rain. We repair the mechanism with updated hardware rather than replacing the entire cassette where the design allows. Just as importantly, we clear and test all four drain tubes, because a blocked drain fills the headliner, then the rear SAM, then your repair bill. Motors are recalibrated after any mechanism work.
What the job includes
- 01Mechanism inspection with the panel removed
- 02Guide shoe, cable and lifting arm repair with updated parts
- 03Motor testing, replacement and normalisation
- 04All four drain tubes cleared and flow tested
- 05Seal inspection and replacement
- 06Water test after repair to confirm the leak is gone
Common questions
My roof works fine — should I still have the drains cleaned?
Yes, and it is inexpensive. A blocked drain on a car parked outside is the single most common cause of the wet trunk and dead rear SAM combination we see.
Can a panoramic roof be repaired or does the whole unit get replaced?
The vast majority are repairable with the correct hardware kit. A full cassette replacement is a last resort and we will show you the failed parts before recommending it.
Let us take a look at it.
Call and describe what the car is doing. We will give you an honest assessment before any work begins.
