SAM Module Repair & Replacement
The SAM units are the fuse boxes with a brain. When one starts failing you get symptoms that look unrelated to each other — and replacing parts one at a time never fixes it.
Signs you need this
- Lights, wipers or windows behaving randomly or not at all
- Car will not start, or starts only sometimes, with no crank fault
- Battery drains overnight with everything switched off
- Multiple unrelated warning lights appearing at once
How we approach it
Signal Acquisition Modules control lighting, wipers, windows, the fuel pump relay and dozens of other circuits. They fail from water intrusion, corroded pins and burned internal relay contacts, most commonly on W211, W164, W203 and W209 chassis. We test the module in place before condemning it — many "bad SAM" cars are actually a wet plug or a chafed harness. When a unit truly is finished, we source it, install it and perform the SCN online coding that marries it to your VIN, which is the step that makes a used module actually work.

Common questions
Can I buy a used SAM from a salvage yard and have you install it?
We can install one, but it must be coded to your VIN through the Mercedes server, and not every used unit will accept coding depending on its history and part number. We will tell you honestly whether the part you found is a candidate before you buy it.
Why did my SAM fail?
Usually water. Rear SAMs sit low in the trunk and take on water from a leaking taillight seal or a plugged sunroof drain. If we do not fix the leak first, the new module will fail the same way, so leak repair is part of the job.
