Brake Fluid Service
Brake fluid absorbs water out of the air. Water boils, and boiling fluid means a pedal that goes to the floor exactly when you need it not to.
Signs you need this
- More than two years since the last brake fluid service
- Soft or spongy pedal, especially after hard use
- Dark or cloudy fluid in the reservoir
- Brake or ESP warnings after fluid has been topped up
How we approach it
Mercedes specifies a brake fluid change every two years regardless of mileage, and it is the service most often skipped. We measure moisture content before and after, pressure bleed the full system including the ABS unit, and use fluid that meets the correct DOT 4 Plus or low-viscosity specification your car requires — newer cars with active safety systems need the low-viscosity fluid to operate correctly in cold conditions.

Common questions
My brakes feel fine — do I still need this?
Yes. Contaminated fluid feels perfectly normal right up until a long descent or a hard stop boils it. It is also what corrodes ABS units from the inside, which is a far more expensive problem.
Can you do it while I do an oil change?
Absolutely — it is a common pairing and takes under an hour on most models.
