Engine & Transmission Mounts
Mercedes uses fluid-filled engine mounts to keep the cabin quiet. When the fluid leaks out, every vibration the engine makes arrives in the steering wheel.
Signs you need this
- Vibration through the steering wheel or seat at idle
- Clunk when shifting into drive or reverse
- Engine movement visible when revving from underneath
- Vibration that disappears in neutral
How we approach it
Owners often arrive convinced something serious is wrong with the engine, when the actual fault is a $200 mount that has collapsed. We check mounts under load, watching movement as the drivetrain is torqued in gear, and inspect for the tell-tale fluid streak down the side of the mount. Transmission and differential mounts are checked at the same time, because a worn set replaced one at a time never quite settles the car down.
What the job includes
- 01Load testing of engine, transmission and differential mounts
- 02Inspection for hydraulic fluid loss and rubber separation
- 03Genuine or OE-equivalent hydraulic mount replacement
- 04Transmission and differential mount replacement as needed
- 05Drivetrain alignment check on reassembly
- 06Road test to confirm the vibration is gone
Common questions
Do both engine mounts need replacing?
Usually yes. They age together, and replacing one leaves the new mount carrying a load the tired one no longer shares — which shortens its life and leaves some vibration behind.
Are aftermarket mounts acceptable?
Some are excellent and some collapse within a year. We fit brands we have watched hold up on Orange County roads, and we will tell you which we are using.
