Conductor Plate & Valve Body

If your Mercedes drops into limp mode and will only give you second gear, the conductor plate is the first place to look — not a new transmission.

Typical range: $850 – $2,600

Signs you need this

  • Transmission stuck in one gear or limp home mode
  • Harsh, delayed or flaring shifts
  • Speedometer dropping to zero intermittently
  • Speed sensor or implausible signal fault codes stored

How we approach it

The 722.6 five-speed carries its speed sensors on a plastic conductor plate inside the pan. The plate cracks, the solder joints fatigue, and the transmission control module loses the signal it needs to shift. It reads like catastrophic failure and quotes like it too, but the repair is a conductor plate, a valve body clean or rebuild, a new filter, correct fluid and a fresh 13-pin connector adapter — a fraction of a replacement gearbox. We test electrically before we open anything.

What the job includes

  • 01Transmission control module fault and live data review
  • 02Conductor plate and speed sensor testing
  • 03Conductor plate replacement with updated part
  • 04Valve body cleaning, inspection or rebuild
  • 0513-pin connector adapter and pan gasket renewal
  • 06Correct MB-specification fluid fill and level set at temperature

Common questions

Another shop said I need a rebuilt transmission. Is that true?

Sometimes it is, but a great many of these cars need a conductor plate and a valve body service. We test the electrical side first, and we will tell you plainly if the gearbox is genuinely worn out.

Does the fluid really need to be set at a specific temperature?

Yes. These transmissions have no dipstick and the level is only correct within a narrow temperature window. Filled cold or hot, it will either starve or foam — both of which damage it.

Let us take a look at it.

Call and describe what the car is doing. We will give you an honest assessment before any work begins.
