EIS & Steering Lock Repair
The EIS is the electronic gatekeeper between your key and the car starting. When it or the steering lock fails, the car is immobile — and a dealer will usually quote a full replacement.
Signs you need this
- Key will not turn, or turns but nothing happens
- Key is stuck in the ignition and will not release
- "Steering lock malfunction" or immobiliser message on the cluster
- Car cranks intermittently, often worse in cold weather
How we approach it
On W204, W207 and W212 chassis the electronic steering lock motor is a known weak point: the plastic gear strips, the lock stays engaged, and the car refuses to crank. The EIS itself fails from worn key contacts and internal solder cracks. Both faults are commonly quoted as a full EIS replacement with new keys — a job that runs into the thousands. In many cases the correct repair is a rebuilt ESL actuator or an EIS contact repair, keeping your existing keys and your existing VIN pairing. We diagnose which it actually is before quoting.

Common questions
Will I need new keys?
Not always. If the EIS can be repaired or a correctly-prepared replacement is used, your existing keys are retained. A full EIS swap without VIN matching does require new keys, which is exactly why we try the repair route first.
My car will not start at all — can you still work on it?
Yes. Have it towed to us. A no-start EIS or ESL car is a routine job here and we can usually diagnose it the same day it arrives.
