Battery, Alternator & Charging

A modern Mercedes will not simply accept a new battery. It has to be registered to the charging system, or the car will overcharge it and you will be buying another one next year.

Typical range: $95 – $1,100

Signs you need this

  • Car is dead after sitting two or three days
  • "Auxiliary battery malfunction" message on the dash
  • Dim lights, slow cranking, or a battery warning light
  • Electrical accessories reset every time you start the car

How we approach it

We supply and fit the correct AGM or lead-acid battery for your chassis, register it through Xentry so the intelligent charging strategy resets, and check the auxiliary battery that so many W212, W221 and W164 owners never knew they had. If your car goes flat overnight, we run a proper parasitic draw test — module by module, with the network asleep — rather than guessing. Alternator, starter, voltage regulator and ground strap work all happens here too.

What the job includes

  • 01Load testing of main and auxiliary batteries
  • 02Correct-specification battery supply and fitting
  • 03Battery registration and charging strategy reset through Xentry
  • 04Alternator output, ripple and regulator testing
  • 05Starter and ground strap replacement
  • 06Parasitic draw isolation with modules asleep

Common questions

Does battery registration really matter?

It does. The car adapts its charging voltage to the age it believes the battery to be. Fit a new battery without registering it and the car keeps charging it like a worn one, which shortens its life considerably.

What is the auxiliary battery for?

It supports the electronics during start-stop events and holds up voltage for the consumer network. When it fails you get warning messages and odd electrical behaviour even though the main battery is fine.

Let us take a look at it.

Call and describe what the car is doing. We will give you an honest assessment before any work begins.
