Heater & Blower Motor

A Mercedes climate system routes air with a set of small vacuum and electric actuators. When one sticks, the car heats the footwell and freezes your face.

Typical range: $280 – $2,400

Signs you need this

  • Fan only works on the highest setting, or not at all
  • No heat, or heat on one side only
  • Clicking or ticking from behind the dashboard
  • Sweet smell and fogging windows from a leaking heater core

How we approach it

Blower regulators fail more often than the motors themselves and are far cheaper to replace, so we test before condemning. Heater cores clog with the sludge that generic coolant creates, and vent flap actuators strip their plastic gears. We diagnose actuator position through Xentry, which shows exactly which flap is not reaching its commanded position rather than requiring the dash to come apart on a hunch.

What the job includes

  • 01Blower motor and regulator testing
  • 02Vent flap actuator position testing through Xentry
  • 03Blower motor, regulator and resistor replacement
  • 04Actuator replacement and calibration
  • 05Heater core flushing or replacement
  • 06Full climate function test across every mode

Common questions

Why does the fan only work on high?

That is the classic failed blower regulator. The high setting bypasses the regulator entirely, which is why it survives. It is usually an affordable repair.

Is a heater core replacement really that expensive?

On most models the dashboard has to come out, which is where the labour goes. We will always check for a simpler cause first, because plenty of no-heat cars are a stuck actuator or a low coolant level.

Let us take a look at it.
